Gedlingborough College
About Us
Gedlingborough College has beenoffering the highest quality education for over 50 years. The College started life as a technical college offering courses to 16-19 year olds and metamorphosed into what it has become today over the last two decades. The College has grown significantly over that time, we now boast several campuses, and currently educate over 3,000 students every academic year. Our various departments are known as the best in the area having attracted funding from both government and industry. We work closely with local employers to ensure we are kept up to date with the latest working practices to give our students a commercial edge.
Departments
Our Business Studies department has been growing for a number of years and now offers an interesting range of courses. The Head of Department, Brian Johnson, is pleased to announce a new venture in conjunction with local businesses. One of the advanced e-business classes will be working with the companies to help them set up their own web site. This is an exciting venture for both the students and companies and if it is successful, the venture will be expanded.
The Hospitality and Catering Department has recently opened a restaurant run by the students. This is proving to be a great success.
It allows the students to train in all areas of catering and receive feedback from members of the public on the service provided. The public response has been very gratifying. One lunchtime a week, there is a special offer for the older members of the community to come and eat at a discounted rate. This has become so popular that the restaurant is taking bookings a month in advance!
Computing has been consolidating its links with industry. Many of the courses have been developed as a result of this collaboration. Students are coming from all over the UK it is well-known that students from this department are more likely to gain employment as a result of attending a course at this College than they are from taking a course at almost any other establishment.
The Fashion department has had a record number of students enrol during this academic year. After completing City and Guilds courses at college, students go on to take degree courses at university. Last year one of our top students was taken on by a very well-known fashion house.
Plans for the Future
We plan to expand on the existing siteswe have at Nottingham and Derby by extending buildings which will give us a further 20 classrooms, at a cost of 2 million pounds. These will be finished by September 2005. This building work will include a new catering block to house the Hospitality and Catering department and once completed the restaurant will move to new premises with more seating. We have secured funding to take on an additional 10 full time staff in 2005 and plan to expand our student population by an additional 300 students for 2005.
we have many plans for the future, these include new courses in:
Beauty Therapy, Reiki Healing and Massage.
